VH1 Best Week Ever
The news, without all that depressing stuff
I like repackaged news shows. I rarily watch the actual news. CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, the 6:00 pm news or the 11:00pm news, nada, I haven’t seen a full episode in over 5 years. I tend to read or listen to my news, but I am fascinated and oft entertained by these weekly review shows that offer the news regurjitated and more palatable than before.
It started with “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and now I’m forced to add VH1’s the Best Week Ever. First, I should state that while the Daily Show and Best Week Ever have some similarities, they have distinctly different foci. The Daily Show focuses on current events, with political commentary a mainstay. The Best Week Ever is almost entirely pop culture issues.
Anyway, Rachael Harris, who I was first introduced to on VH1’s “I Love the 80’s Strikes Back” is probably one of my favorite commentators. She’s just wildly sardonic. Her delivery is fantastic. She’s the type of girl that you could expect to deliver a wry comment in the midst of a devasting crisis, and I love that about her. She’s also cute, which doesn’t hurt. After Rachael, I’d say the Modern Humorist, who have their own website, Modern Humorist are my next favorite.
This week comments on Angelina Jolie’s “sex with friends in hotels”; Britney Spears “Onyx Hotel Tour”; Nora Jones, Clay Akiens, and John Mayer’s calming effect on America; a CSI vs Law & Order grudge match; and let’s not forget, Carmen Electra getting awarded the “Best Week Ever” award.
