Blog-a-thon: Mr. Holland
I wrote my check for the “Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation” today. With the check, I wrote a quick, and hopefully nice note, indicating that the donation was for my sponsorship of “Pet Rock Stars” for the 2003 Blog-a-thon. This made me very happy. It’s a silly thing. I’ve never participated in the Bog-a-thon before, I wasn’t quite certain what to expect, but Scott and Shannon exceeded any and all expectations I may have held. It was wonderful to experience the song writing process. Especially with two talent singer-songwriters. Pet Rock Stars completed two songs during the 24hr period set by the Blog-a-thon. The songs are available as .mp3 files, under the Creative COmmons license, which is even cooler, because now they can be used as inspiration or a foundation for other artist to create new work.
Anyway, my note to Mr. Holland’s Opus was to make sure that they recognized the donation as part of the joy and spirit that Pet Rock Stars created, and to point them to the Pet Rock Star’s Blog site, so that they could have the opportunity to review the site and refer it to others. I hope what Shannon and Scott have accomplished continues to inspire musicians, students, and even just us awed observers to greater and better things.
