Buffy: Bring on the Night
"We just became an army. We just declared war. Any questions?"Okay, I’m excited. EXCITED. I can’t help it. I think the one item that disappointed me the most about last season’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season Six), was my lack of excitement throughout the year. Unlike most who have thrown the season away as Joss’s bastard child, I happen to believe the season was very good in many aspects. It was just, unfortunately, hard to watch and equally hard to get excited about.
Footnotes
Burn my bastard brain, but prehaps some of the lack of excitement was do to me. I was a spoiler hog. The more, the better. I had read the tidbits, rumors, scripts, and hell full episode summaries, sometimes days before the show aired. So, yes the shows lacked that spark. Of course, this doesn’t absolve Joss from spearheading one of the most gruelingly painful season’s of television every. Come on, I watch the show because I like my life lessons laced with the sweet tinge of comedy and rapid fire delivery. Watching Buffy crawl her way through her life, death, and self-worth issues, made me want to smack her, and every friend whom I’ve had to suffer similar processes with.
But back to my excitement, can I just say, “...is Giles alive?”, “Did they blow up the Watcher’s Council?”, “The First Evil AGAIN?”, “Hey, Didn’t he play...?” I’m stoked. I’m ready. My brain is a querying. It’s spinning cycles. I’m counting days. I’m lamenting the start of Christmas season with endless barrage of repeats (last year it was almost a reprieve). I’m back to basking in the wonder and talent of a man known simple as Joss Whedon, and loving the introduction of Drew Goddard. So far this season has been hip, quick, and chock full of some interesting goodies. And Jonathan. O’ Jonathan. And posable Dawn (the next best thing to killing her). Anya, always wonderful. So yes, I’ve seen the preview for Bring On the Night, and I’m all, “BRING ON THE NIGHT” faster. Can today be Tuesday?
