QT: Bush Assails Democrats Over Patriot Act
President Bush accused Democrats yesterday of blocking a full reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act for political reasons, as the White House stepped up an aggressive campaign to defend the president’s terrorism-fighting authority.—Washington Post
I love it. President Bush, brilliant man that he is, is accusing Democrats of blocking the USA Patriot Act for political reasons. Call me simple, but aren’t “political” reasons normally why things pass or fail in government. Ideological, philosophical, hell even religious differences often boil down to “political reasons” in the world of politics. The fine print being, Democrats and some Republicans have actually decided to take a belated stand for American privacy. Admittedly, that stand is still on the strewn, broken body of American freedoms; but it is a stand nevertheless.
I just found the first paragraph hilarious. But the article is a good summation of the upcoming battles on Capitol Hill, so go give a read to ”Bush Assails Democrats Over Patriot Act: Opponents Are Blocking Law’s Full Renewal for Political Reasons, President Says” by Jim VandeHei in January 4, 2006 edition of the Washington Post (page A02).
