Eight Random Facts About Me

I'm thinking I should start a category just for memes. For someone who doesn't personally know a lot of online bloggers, I seemed to get tagged fairly frequently for these memes. This ones on eight random facts about myself.

The lovely Laura Axelrod tagged me for this meme. The focus is to share eight random facts about myself, and then tag eight other bloggers to do the same. Do I know eight other bloggers? We’ll see.

Okay a bit of a precursor, I rarely imagine facts about my life as random, and almost never consider them relevant or interesting. So if you’re ready to be bored to tears, keep reading.

  1. I was adopted. My birth mother was an English teacher, who kindly left medical histories and other details behind in case I desired to contact her. I was curious but never really interested, so I didn’t. I’m never certain if I was cruel and emotional detached; or attempting to be kind and spare her my ambivalence about something that obviously was important to her.

  2. My second major at Penn State University was Administration of Justice. My interests were organized crimes and unnatural deaths—murder, serial murders, suicide.

  3. Up until 5 years ago, I use to read on average thirty books a week, not counting work related reading materials—literature, theology, gay and lesbian studies, lesbian fiction, crime novels, poetry, nonprofit management, and a random array of other topics. Because of this, I’ve given away my entire library collection 3 or 4 times, generally to just make room for new books. I now mostly read online.

  4. I love pop culture review shows and magazines such as VH1’s Best.Week.Ever, the Daily Show, Colbert Report, and Entertainment Weekly. Embarrassingly enough, my subscription to Entertainment Weekly expires in December 2008. It was started in 1998, and was only renewed once. Yes, that means I opted for the 5 year subscription plan, twice.

  5. I lived in Leiden, Holland, the Netherlands for six months off $100 US Dollars and credit card with a very low cash limit. My scholarship check for the stay to study at Leiden University didn’t come through until I returned to America. I learned that having fun doesn’t cost a thing, but food is surprisingly expensive.

  6. I’ve often dreamt that I can float. The dreams are surreal, as they typically contain very normal events and occurrences. As I leave whatever establishment I’m at school, library, home, a client site, etc., as I go to walk, I casually lift my hands parallel to the ground and rise 1-2 inches from the earth, then drive/float done the street. I’m not certain if this has any meaning besides being a telling commentary on my unwillingness to drive.

  7. I love cats. I’m mildly allergic, but suffering is so worth having their affection.

  8. While I have no “medical allergies,” my body strangely reacts to almost every prescription drug, I’ve ever been given. For example, in college, I was given codeine after a nasty, almost break of my wrist. The doctor said it would ease the pain and help me sleep. I took a single dose and was up for three days straight. Worse yet, I was up and hyper. One of my roommates found me running around in the snow, making snow angels with no shoes or coat after midnight, one morning. I thought the angels were spectacular; but apparently that wasn’t the point.

Well there you go. Laura says the house rules are…

Bloggers must post these rules and provide eight random facts about themselves. In the post, the tagged blogger tags eight other bloggers and notify them that they have been tagged.

Personally, I say, ”Are those rules? I was expecting a list.” Anyway, I tag Joe, Tina, Carnet, Deborah, Deborah B., Beth, and but she’s a girl.... I’ll apologize in advance. Don’t ban me, please!!!

Meanwhile, anyone want to get memed? If so, leave a comment, and the next adventure that comes around, I’ll bring you with.
