Gregory Douglass: Hard

A male Ani Difranco? Gregory DOuglass has great music, lyrics, and vocals.

So I passed my friend, Joe, this musical baton. Why? Because on top of being a tech geek like myself, he's always a fantastic musician, so I figured he have some interesting responses. Besides, I don't know too many people who actually have weblogs, that hadn't completed the meme.

Anyway, my trust in passing it to Joe, worked on splendidly he contributed information on two artist I had never heard of before—Carey Farrell and Gregory Douglass. Now, unfortunately, Carey didn't resonate, but Gregory did. I went to iTunes Music Store and purchased the album, Teeter, immediately. Solely off the strength of the single, Hard.

I love this song! The lyrics, his voice, and the music. There are some aspects of the musical arrangements, that strike an odd note to me, but the rest of the song is strong enough to overcome it. Apparently, he's up and coming, and self-published. Possiblely, a male Ani Difranco? Anyway, I tried, and tried to find the lyrics for "Hard" and could only find partial lyrics on this site Blais Blogs. So I decided to flesh them out a bit more, for anyone else looking for them.

Lyrics

god, take this canopy away from me,
i need to reacquaint the sky,
we've done our best and so I'm leaving
'cause it's my life, it's my life

i know it's hard enough to figure out
what's right and what's a waste of time,
just like how easy it can be to hold on to a lie,

i know everything is going to work out fine,
i know, i've been waiting for this day all this time,
i know, you've done everything that you could do,
but floating is just a waste of my foolish pride.

i'll miss you hard enough to hide it,
i need you hard enough to try,
i love you hard enough to move on.

believe me when I say I need this,
I'm sick and tired of this place,
believe me when you see the likes of it,
or just the look on my face.

i know everything is going to work out fine,
i know, i've been waiting for this day all this time,
i know, you've done everything that you could do,
but floating is just a waste of my foolish pride.

i'll miss you hard enough to hide it,
i need you hard enough to try,
i love you hard enough to move on.

i'll miss you hard enough to hide it,
i need you hard enough to try,
i love you hard enough to move on.

i need you hard enough to try
i need you hard enough to try
i need you hard enough to try

Great song. Thanks 4 the lyrics. Have you tried Uncommon Folk, it’s a good place to find new music, as well as eMusic.

I have an eMusic account but haven’t used it in awhile. Don’t know why. I’ll have to revisit, my friend Joe who turned me on to Gregory was just mentioning his increased usage.

Uncommon Folk seems interesting, I’ll have to give it a spin.
