Commentary
Here's my newest playlist. I started listening to this list of songs at the end of March. I like mixing in some firm favorites with new artist or tunes. This list started out with 30 songs, but got weeded down to 22 over time.
Some highlights include: Martha Wainwright, Tricky, and Jonathan Rice. I've been a big fan of Rufus Wainwright, not so big a fan of mom and pop Wainwright; but little sis Wainwright kicks ass. I first saw her in San Francisco, singing back-up for her brother. I then became frantic trying to find songs of her's. It wasn't easy, her website was lacking, and she didn't have a released album. But she's finally been picked up by a label, so go give her a listen. Don't expect it to be easy, but it's good.
Tricky's been around for awhile, and every club addicted can testify to his genius. Jonathin Rice is a new boy on the music scene, but he has some compelling lyrics and a nice voice. He's often been paired with Ray LaMontagne, who is gaining popularity faster, but whom I just don't like. Don't know why.
All this is mixed in with some classics and some country — Fred Astaire, who I recently started collecting; because I love his stuff. That may totally be biased by my ability to vision him dancing whenever one of his songs come on. I'm a sucker for a Astaire movie. Add some remixed Shirley Bassey, Keith Urban and Kenny Chessney; and you've got a mix that has been making me dance, challenging my musical assumptions, making me smiling, and keeping me spending money on more new music.
