Rediscovering the 80s

Funny how I find myself, In love with you. If I could buy my reasoning, I would pay to lose. One half won't do, I've asked myself, how much do you commit yourself

I’ve faced the fact that I am unrepentingly geekish. I recently discovered a small, open-source application that firmly fits into my quiet, or not so quiet, musical obession. From my iPod, to iTrip, to my growing collection of CDs and cassettes that are always in the process of being converted to mp3s, to my recent discovery of StreamRipper.

What is ”StreamRipper”, well if your as geeky as I, then StreamRipper is a burning bush sent to strenthen your evangelism of the beauty of a digital life. It’s my iLife, and I plan to live it fully. StreamRipper has rescued me from the tedium of converting 1000s of cassettes to mp3s, and has brought joy back to my music collection. In a nutshell, StreamRipper allows you to tune into an internet radio station and cut the stream into mp3 files.

Hallelujah! Praise be.It’s wooonderfullllll. It’s magic. I’d almost be willing to sleep with the developer, but he’s a male (sorry). What say you, have I done. Well at first I started out with noble intentions. I have a growing collection of artists from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, that I would love to compliment; plus I fondly remember the hundreds of Gospel records I was raised on, with songs from the Mighty Clouds of Joy to the Rev. Andrae Crouch. And wouldn’t it be great to find a radio station that played some of these artist so I could cut mp3s.

Yes, yes. High flutin’, root tin tootin’ hopes in a hand basket. I made it as far back as the 1980s, and was sucked into a void of overly simplified music that is still strangely compelling. Who knew that Talk Talks’ “It’s My Life” would sound even better over 15 years later. Does this make them ahead of their time, or does it mean I’m regressing. Let’s not dwell.

Sure, laugh it up. But while your laughing, I’m going through a storm of productivity. Fueled by the blind science of dolby sounds, ”Crimson and Clover,” ”I Ran,” ”Whip It,” ”Saved by Zero,” ”Take On Me,” and lest we forget, the growing brilliance of ”It’s My Life.” I’ve just completed three projects that have been languishing on my desktop, and still had motivation to write this web log.
“I ask myself, how much do you, commit yourself...”

I’ve found joy in the 80s, and its giving me the motivation to face the often overwhelming amount of work of 2001 (sure, I know its 2003, I figure I might catch-up by 2005, possible the 2004, if I can retain the post orgasmic glow of my introductory experience to StreamRipper.
