What’s Popular- A Recap

Apparently my photo gallery is far more popular than the rest off the website, unless you include my videos—people seem to adore them, though they get far more hits on YouTube, then here.

For no particular purpose, as I was telling a woman, her motherboard was fried, and she needed to call Dell to get a replacement, I was also reviewing my referrers log.  I guess I’m one of many, who keeps a referrer’s log, but doesn’t publicize it. This is because, lots of vendors take advantage of it, by hitting your site, just so their name shows in the published referrer.

Anyway, I use a blacklist, and that keeps away the hustlers, and other porn purveyors, to some degree. So now, I mostly review the logs to get a quick idea of what’s popular and where people are coming from.

Not that long ago, I added a video section to the site. Basically, it’s just a small area where I can group various videos I make; much like the gallery is for photos. Well, this little section of my site has become the most popular section of the site. It gets hits five to six times more frequently than any of my articles. This of course feeds my ego, that people actually enjoy my videos; while slapping my ego as I realize the same people could care less about my writing (sigh). Well you can’t have everything, and I do enjoy putting the videos together. It’s a fun hobby.

So my Dana/Alice video, “Sleeps with Butterflies” is my most popular video.  I expect it’s increased popularity just due to that queasy stomach feeling everyone got from the season finale of the L Word, you know the one, that doesn’t bode well for our dynamic duo. It’s good to go back and think of happier times. Plus the Tori Amos song kicks.

Next in popularity seems to be a tie between the Bette/Tina video “I Know, I Know, I Know”. Bette and Tina are just a popular couple. They inspire a far more loyal fan base than Alice and Dana, so I’m a bit surprised that Dana/Alice beat them out, but that’s probably due to the fact that there are hundreds of Bette/Tina videos out there.

Anyway, Bette and Tina’s I Know, I Know, I Know” are running neck and neck with my second favorite L Word couple (Dana and Alice are/were my first) is Jenny/Marina in My Secret Life”.  Now My Secret Life was my first L Word video, and as such isn’t the best. But it’s still fairly good. Of course how bad can it be, Jenny and Marina had that utterly captivating, tortured love and longing thing that makes stories like “Romeo & Juliet” and “Buffy & Angel” so well watched.

If it’s not a music video, the next most popular referral (typically from Google or MSN) is my brief introduction to Anna Nalick’s Breathe 2am. Apparently, Anna’s making quite the hit on the search engines, and a number of those results are pushing users my way.  I can’t tell if they stay and view anything else, but I can say, it’s probably a good thing I added lyrics to that post.

My ethics article, Right vs Wrong gets far more hits than I would imagine. I think it might be improperly linked to some wrong terms, because rarely does someone get to it looking for terms like “ethics” “conservatism”, or “social responsibility”.

Then oddly, my section called Collections gets quite a number of hits, even though it’s currently incomplete.  I put it on line, thinking I’d guilt myself into working on more (transferring data, developing the interface). But apparently, I know no shame, because my work level, on it, hasn’t increased at all. It falls in the realm of oh’ yeah, I should add the clip section for the music renditions...oooh new book to read.  If your anxiously awaiting the history of “I Put a Spell on You”, “Dream a Little Dream” or “They All Laughed”, I sincerely apologize, and offer as a warning, you may be waiting awhile. I need a nice consolidated burst of energy. It just hasn’t happened yet.

So there it is, a popularity recap.  Enjoy!!
