Apologize
This is an excercise in brevity. I've been inspired by "ABriefMessage.com" which features opinions on design in 200 words or less. So this is my attempt for a brief write-up of my most current playlist. I've opted for 300 words or less, cause I'm a talker. Get Playlist from Apple's iTunes Store. |
Commentary
I’ve been enjoying this playlist for the past three months. I, affectionately, refer to it as my So You Think You Can Dance mix, but it’s much more than that. A combination of new and old that’s hummable, danceable, and occasionally singable. It’s been an inspiring mix for coding, walking, and even doing the dishes.
I most frequently start off listening to either “Somewhere a Clock is Ticking” by Snow Patrol or ”Apologize” by One Republic. These are the two songs that other songs in the list fall around with amazing results. I enjoy when “Somewhere a Clock is Ticking” is followed by a more upbeat song such as ”Let the Drummer Kick”. During my morning walks, I like the slow start as the sun rises, and then the increased speed followed by the more danceable songs.
I love “Say So” by Uh Huh Her. It provides a coupling of eighties synth-pop with easy sing-ability. Plus Leisha Hailey (yum), I love her voice and am happy that the music is more accessible then the Murmurs.
For the new, I’ve been enjoying the Rakes, the Cinematics, the Submarines, and the Cliks lately—don’t ask me why all the “the’s”. For the old, can anything make you want to jump up and down and sing as much as Simple Minds’ Alive & Kicking? God, that song still rocks. Who is gonna come and turn the tide? The old is rounded out Bill Withers and Garbage.
There’s also a mix of the magically artful—Roisin Murphy’s ”Night of the Dancing Flame”, the Submarines’ Brighter Discontent; and the magnificently angst filled— Dancing by Elisa, The Story by Brandie Carlile, and Joan Osbourne’s What You Are.
Angst, joy, rhythm, dance, some guitars, and some great vocals and I’ve been pleased, pleased, pleased.
