I Know, I Know, I Know

Pairing: Bette/Tina Description

Commentary
I'll admit, since I'm on a spree, doing a Bette and Tina video took a lot more effort than I imagined. I suppose, it's because I didn't pay that much attention to them during the course of the first season, or the second season so far. Sure little things crept in, like the "Boring Intervention" which was hilarious, but overall there were just this vague images of their coupledom.
Vagueness can be fine in real life, but it is not your friend when looking for video clips. Trust me, it translates into, "I want that clip were Bette hugged Tina, or maybe it was a kiss. No, no, that's right, it was a touch. Like a caress. It was in episode... Well it was definitely from season one."
Yes! As you can visualize from that, selecting clips took almost three times longer than normal, since I had to practically re-watch every episode, and force myself to actually pay attention to Bette and Tina (sigh). It wasn't pretty. For example, the Tina meets Bette flashback scene. I can't say how many times, I've now seen "Looking Back" or aka "The Dina Shore Weekend" episode. I needed Tina and Bette's first meeting, and my brain just kept overlooking it.
So, why Tegan & Sara? Are you kidding, its a cool ass song?! I haven't been lifelong fans of the Canadian twins. But I was introduced to them around Thanksgiving 2004. The album was "If It Was You." It wasn't until I heard 2004's "So Jealous" that their music really started to percolate for me. It started out with, "Where Does the Good Go", with it's short strident guitar chords, and pleading tones. But then, the perkiness almost annoyingly happy, "I Know, I Know, I Know" started to penetrate my dreams. When I was walking to Cafe Zoma's one morning, and started humming the "...stick your hands inside of my pocket..." verse. I knew I needed to pay attention.
So as any music geek, knows, the test of a song is not listening to it by itself, but intermixed with a variety of other songs to see, if it can change a mood, be influenced by others, and make you feel good. Hence, I created my newest playist, My Mother's Son to give it a whirl. Go figure, it's a great song. One that grows on you with each listen, and one that is mood altering. I invariably found myself smiling and slightly perky after listening.
Not long after the song was deemed worthy, I started to think of Bette and Tina's relationship in reference to it, but with verses like...
Back from the last place that I wanted to fake
You laugh with me, shout, scream
Now tell me you're staying
I know, I know, I know
You're still my love
How could I not envision them.
I have a new appreciation for Bette and Tina after making this video; and well after finally finding Bette sexy, in the Season 2, Episode 8, Loyal, written by A.M. Homes and directed by Alison Maclean. Don't get me wrong, Bette Porter/Jennifer Beals has always been hot. But for me, hot is visual, and sexy is visceral; and Bette Porter was good to look at, but didn't move me. Well leave it to A.M. Homes to write a Bette, strong, sure, sorry, witty, delectably, aggressively intelligent that my body finally took notice.
So hat's off to AM Homes, Tegan, Sara, and of course Jennifer Beals and Laurel Holloman for such great inspiration.
Lyrics
From hundreds of miles you cry like a baby
You plead with me, shout, scream
Tell me I'm staying
I know, I know, I know
I'm still your love
Back from the last place that I wanted to fake
You laugh with me, shout, scream
Now tell me you're staying
I know, I know, I know
You're still my love
The same as I love you
You'll always love me too
This love isn't good unless
It's me and you
Box after box and you're still by my side
The weather is changing
And breaking my stride
I know, I know, I know
It's just this day
House after house, just like car after car
You see club after club
And it all seems so far
I know, I know, I know
What else are we here for?
The same as I love you
You'll always love me too
This love isn't good unless
It's me and you
Stick your hands inside of my pockets
Keep them warm while I'm still here
Tell them this love hasn't changed me
Hasn't changed me at all
Last night I was writing about you
I know my screaming and shouting won't keep you
I know, I know, I know
You're still my love
I wake up to the sound of you working
You're one room right over
Stressing and loving me
I know, I know, I know
Be still my love
The same as I love you
You'll always love me too
This love isn't good unless
It's me and you
Stick your hands inside of my pockets
Keep them warm while I'm still here
Tell them this love hasn't changed me
Hasn't changed me at all
Stick your heart inside of my chest
Keep it warm here while we rest
Tell them this love hasn't changed me
Hasn't changed me at all
The same as I love you
You'll always love me too
This love isn't good unless
It's me and you
The same as I love you
You'll always love me too
This love isn't good unless
It's me and you
