Description
A Dana/Alice video, inspired by Showtime's the L Word, and Tori Amos' "Sleeps with Butterflies". I took over 50 clips of Dana and Alice from season one and two episodes. I took way more clips than I needed. In fact, I didn't even use some of the scenes I wanted to.

Commentary

The friendship turn romance of Dana and Alice on Showtime's the L Word has fascinated me. Alice has always been my favorite character on the show, even though Marina (played by Karina Lombard) ran a close second. Alice won, because she made me laugh. I could go into a litany of her great quips, but I'll refrain.

So I wanted to do a video for Dana & Alice, because they were the only reason I kept coming back to watch the L Word, this season. Let's face it without Marina, the shows a bit lackluster. Anyway, I wanted to do an Alice/Dana video but was having a very hard time finding a song. Originally, I wanted something upbeat and just plain enjoyable, so I could match the characters energy.

I was considering "Beautiful Day" by U2, "Head Over Heals" by Tears for Fears, and even "Head Over Feet" by Alanis Morrisette; when I watched "Labryrinth", season 2, episode 5, of the L Word. I was laughing and incrediblly happy, when Alice and Dana finally went for it, with CeCe Peniston's "Finally" pushing the action forward. But then my heart almost broke for Alice, when she walked in on the toast Dana's mother was giving to Dana and her finance Tanya.

That was the moment, the expression, the feeling I needed to make a decision. The decision was easy, Tori. As I've written, I'm in love with the song, "Sleeps with Butterflies". Every few years, Tori Amos, writes a few lines of lyrics, that just plague my heart, for good and bad. Typically, the lyrics contain some combination of hope and fear, joy and sorrow in them; that just stops me cold, and forces me to listen.

But I believe I'm worth coming home to

Were the lyrics, this time around. I believe the spunky, tough, and tender, journalist, Alice Pieszecki is worth coming home to; and I'm hoping that dorky, lovable, tennis jock, Dana Fairbanks agrees. So here's my video encouragement.

Wow!  Great song choice and beautiful editing job. Post a link to this in some L Word forums, if you haven’t already. This is probably the best Dana Alice video I’ve seen!  You’ve got some mad video skills there, Mamatweety ; ).

    Great video!!!

Can you make another Danish one with all the clips you left out? Like the 4 a.m. doorstep scene?

    Nice work!

Love this video more everytime I see it!  Great scene selection, editing and song choice. It really seems to capture the heart of the Dana/Alice relationship.  Any chance you could make it available for download???? Pretty Please!

First, Thanks for the kind words, and I’m glad you both enjoyed the video.

Next, Christine. I do on making another Danish video. I was just so disappointed in the direction that the took Alice towards the end of season two, that it kind of killed my momentum. And when you don’t have the luxury of time, momentum is massively important. Currently, I’m swamped with work projects-websites, database, network moves, and tons upon tons of tech support questions. But hopefully August will be less busy, since its vacation time for a fair number of my clients.  But I promise, at least one more Danish video is forthcoming.

Finally, Freefallin. The video can be downloaded. For most users, when the video is fully loaded, the arrow facing down on the far right of the video player, will present an option for downloading. The options say “save as...” Now, I have heard that on some people’s player the options are greyed out. I don’t know why but it seems to be true. In that case, try right-clicking on this link Danish Video Download. Select the download linked file option. That should get you a copy.

What a fantastic job you did!  I just started watching TLW this season and have ordered season 1.  Can’t wait to see it!  Especially since I heard it’s better than S 3.  Thanks for posting the url.
