I love discovering new fonts. I can’t afford them like I use to. More and more of our clients for Nonprofit Tech focus in on web and database design which, unfortunately, means a small subset of cross-platform fonts. I use to do a fair amount of print design, and exploring fonts was definitely one of life’s pleasures then.
Anyway, I was over at SimpleBits, which has been re-branded; and I’m loving the new colors, look, and feel of it. Dan Cederholm, the designer and writer for SimpleBits was pointing to three sets of upcoming fonts by Mark Simonson. All three fonts are based on old 1940 film fonts. The films had hand lettered titles.
Personally, my two favorites of the three are:
Kinescope is looking to be a far more elegant and refined version of Brushscript. It reminds of the hand-crafted script that I’ve seen used on some of the older musicals I love.
Laundrette, I’m thinking is more of a title/subtitle font. It seems to look better against a nice serif; but I haven’t seen the full set yet, just what’s on Mark’s page.
